Do You Have a Coffee Personality?

What does your coffee say about you? We’ve all heard the phrase “you are what you eat,” but you might also be how you drink your coffee. Whether you take it black or can only tolerate it in blended, frozen shakes, your coffee order might tell your barista (or your coworkers) in Pampa, TX a lot about your personality. Recent surveys of over a thousand coffee drinkers have identified some key personality traits based on your go-to coffee drink.

Black coffee

Black coffee—that is, coffee with no additives—says that the person drinking it is a purist and maybe even a bit old-school. They might be patient and efficient, but they can also be set in their ways and even moody at times. (Don’t get in between this person and their 3 p.m. cup!) It makes sense, after all—they’ve found the thing that works for them and there’s no sense in adding extra bells and whistles.

Instant coffee

Instant coffee drinkers—and we’ll leave the “is it even coffee?” debate out of this—tend to share the practical, efficient characteristics with black coffee drinkers, but they’re more laid back and “big picture” kind of people. These folks tend to be less efficient planners than black coffee drinkers, and might even be procrastinators.

Cappuccinos

Cappuccino drinkers are budding control freaks—they want what they want, the way they want it. They might be obsessive, but they’re also creative, honest and motivated. If you’re a cappuccino drinker, you can revel in knowing that while your coworkers might tease you, they also can’t live without you.

Lattes

Latte drinkers can be summed up by their desire to mute the bitterness of coffee with milk, cream or sugar. These folks tend to be people-pleasing open books, but they also tend to sacrifice their own needs for the sake of others. Are the latte drinkers in your office the type of people who find themselves overextended? If so, they’re right on point with the other latte drinkers in the survey.

Frozen/blended drinks

If your favorite type of coffee is the kind that doesn’t taste like coffee at all, you might be a charming maverick who loves to set trends, try new things and has a bold personality. On the other hand, you might also be reckless and fall for “quick fixes.”

Extremely specific orders

Finally, if you have a very specific coffee order (like Sally in When Harry Met Sally), you might find that you’re detail-oriented, perfectionistic, stubborn and health conscious. People who are quite specific about the type of coffee, milk and other ingredients in their coffee tend to be more rigid than other coffee drinkers—even black coffee drinkers.
